Wire !!!
Why you should NOT buy wires. Yet. Use the ones that come with your set - or only very cheap ones, at first. And THEN what to do.
Warning: There WILL be wires. I almost hate to mention this, but I think it's very much overlooked by 'those in the know' as an assumption which you might not think about.
There might be a rat's nest of them. I'll help you hide what we can, but know it now. ALMOST EVERY AD in the magazines shows TVs and SPEAKERS without showing the wires.
What to do about it: There's not much you can do. There are a few wireless systems though they aren't common.
Warning: YOU CAN spend a fortune on WIRE. The stores will try to bundle you with the latest wire at high prices ("...so you can enjoy the full picture you should have our special cable...") Rehearse now: "No, Thank you, bloodsucker-sales weasel. Maybe later." My suggestion is WAIT since you can BORROW cable on a 30 day return privilege, but you need to get used to the cheaper wire that comes with your set FIRST so you can tell if the change is worth it to you.
I've been in stores where the salesmen obviously don't know what they are talking about. It'd be a shame if you get one of those, who just knows to "push the extras" when there's no need for you to decide on the spot. Better informed choices can come later.

Wouldn't I love to help Bill Gates build HIS system. While I say YOU don't need fancy schmancy wire, especially early on, there are some people who can hear the difference and will pay for it.
