Burn in: Plasma's Achilles Heel?
No, the picture above has nothing to do with burn in. Do you really mind? It came down to: ghost image on tv screen or hot model.
Plasma burn in can ruin the fabulous Plasma display. What to avoid.
"Burn in" means if you watch the same thing all the time, you can get a ghost of THAT when you watch something else. Like a stock crawl across the bottom of the screen... or a network logo if you always watch that network. Video games left on for long periods of timer with no screen motion. Or bars if you always watch 4x3 ratio TV on a 16x9 ratio screen (the new standard.) Or anything really bright and stationary over time. If on the screen for only a short while, there should be no problem, but over time, the image will linger. How long depends on picture intensity of the static image.
That's why there are screen savers on computers, as CRT displays also show this trait.
What to do about it
Turn down the brightness and contrast.
Don't leave static (freeze frame) pictures on the screen for long periods of time. Alternate stretched screen with 4:3 to 'un-memorize" the bars.
The burn is actually uneven pixel wear.
